Back in 1989, the Country Caboose opened as a gift shop in a renovated Santa Fe Caboose. In the early days, it was an eclectic mixture of handmade crafts and "shabby chic" decor. On my fifth anniversary, the shop expanded into a Jersey Central passenger car. Over the years, the shop evolved in to a kitchen and gift store selling everything from cookbooks and cookie cutters to seasonal decor and wedding gifts. When I opened the shop in 1989, I said I would do that for 20 years and then move on to something new. Keeping with my plan, I closed the shop in 2009, twenty years to the day of opening!
All during the life of the shop, I collected railroad memorabilia. My first thoughts were to have something interesting for the guys to look at while the ladies were shopping. But...I got hooked on collecting and I ended up with a museum of my own! Today, my railroadiana collection is displayed in the Jersey Central Passenger Car for all to enjoy!
In June 2015, I officially opened the Caboose as a Wedding Chapel! My husband and I perform weddings in the Caboose, with seating for up to 28 people, and I still have my railroad collection on display in the Passenger Car!
